They say “hold tightly, let go lightly.” I couldn’t agree any more. Today I was informed by Extra Space Storage that my unit was deemed a total loss due to a building fire.

It was located at the epicenter of the blazing inferno. 89727378 kelvins melting over 20 years of documented ideas, sketchbooks, films, recordings, paintings, and photography. All because someone didn’t put their cigarette out.

The emotional part of this situation has nothing to do with the things I have lost but more to do with the things I have.

I am not into fatalism, number games, or religion. I do, however, believe in restraint. Not needing anything if it is not there, leaving things as they are. The patience involved makes me a happier person in life.

At this moment, these practices have been put to work. Today I am being dealt an interesting hand of cards, there’s a wild one in there, it’s time to improvise and adapt.

And whom can I thank for this hand? The person who didn’t put their cigarette out. The person I aptly call The Croupier.

Created over the course of a year on the Mediterranean island of Mallorca, these new works are an examination of one’s self and surroundings. A cathartic expression of environment -- exploring form, light, color and energy in a time of change.
